Dr. Turner serves as Dean and Professor in the College of Communication, Information, and Media at Ball State University, as the finance chair for the ACE Women’s Network of Indiana, past-president of the Organization for the Study of Communication, Language and Gender (OSCLG), and principal associate in Communication Resource Associates, LLC.
She is an experienced higher education administrator, communication teacher/scholar and organizational consultant with an extensive background in gender in the workplace, strategic planning, mentoring, change management, and international education. Dr. Turner has taught courses and workshops on the importance of listening across diverse groups such as gender and race in organizational life. She is the Ball State University champion for Intergroup Dialogue that strives to provide individuals with the speaking and listening skills to create new levels of understanding, relating, and action.
As an award winning teacher-scholar, she has published over 30 chapters and articles in the area of organizational communication, specifically on topics of internationalization, organizational socialization, customer satisfaction, gender, midwifery and birth, breastfeeding, and the body. She has consulted with industry and academia on listening, strategic planning, change management, organizational communication, internationalization/globalization, presentations, mentoring, gender and generational communication, as well as others. Dean Turner has received numerous international and national accolades for her meritorious work in the field of communication, including the Fulbright-Nehru International Education Administrators Award. She served as an associate editor for the International Handbook of Organizational Communication that received the NCA Organizational Communication Division 2017 Edited Book Award, co-editor for Internationalizing the communication curriculum in an age of globalization: Why, what, and how. Routledge: Taylor & Francis and recently served as chair of the Ball State University Freedom of Expression Taskforce and Inter Group Dialogue initiative.
