Christopher Bond, PhD, CLP is an associate professor in communication studies and public relations at Missouri Western State University (MWSU). He is also the current director of learning communities at MWSU. He received his doctorate in Health Communication from The University of Memphis. He previously served as President (2011-12) of the International Listening Association and has served a principal investigator, co-investigator or research director of several state and federally funded research grants regarding smoking behaviour, policy and environmental tobacco smoke. He was the recent director of the Clean Air Research and Policy Program and Chair of Clean Air St. Joe. He was instrumental in assisting his city and university in developing and implementing smoke-free policies. Dr. Bond has given many presentations on health communication and community health, health risks, leadership and listening and studies listening pedagogy within various classroom and health settings. His primary research interests examine listening behaviour as they correlate to receiver apprehension and health risk avoidance within health contexts. His current research involves how to best tailor airplane passenger health risk messages to increase passenger compliance to these messages by adopting in-cabin behaviors. He is also the author of the upcoming book: “Hashtag: How one symbol revolutionized and terrorized social media.”
