Michelle E. Pence, Ph.D. from Louisiana State University, 2013 is Assistant Professor of Communication at The University of Texas of the Permian Basin.  Dr. Pence publishes extensively on the influence of personality and biological traits on the active-empathic listening process, and on violence, aggression, and intimate partner conflict and violence.  In recognition of her scholarly efforts, Dr. Pence has been awarded the Louisiana State University Outstanding Scholar Award, a research fellowship from Louisiana State University, and was twice awarded for Outstanding Research by the International Listening Association. 

Outside of her research pursuits, Dr. Pence is widely recognized for her academic leadership.  As Area Coordinator of Communication at The University of Texas of the Permian Basin, Dr. Pence built a nationally recognized and top-ranked degree program, and is currently building a Master’s in Communication program.  She also serves as Co-Director of the UTPB Honor’s Program, Task Force Member for the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, Global Outreach Chair and Board Member for the International Listening Association, and is a member of the Texas Council on Family Violence.
